Pursuit
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to do the “wrong” thing? Our flesh craves participation in actions and attitudes that are completely against God’s desire for our lives. This fact is true for each of us. As children we did not have to learn how to disobey; doing wrong came quite naturally. Unfortunately, these desires do not simply dissipate as we become adults – they are present throughout our lives.
King David – one of this world’s greatest leaders (and a man after God’s own heart) understood this concept. Though his life was often incredibly perilous: living as a vagabond, wanted dead or alive, and being deprived of his rightful position as king; he had an incredible ability to overcome his circumstances and simply do the “right” thing. He understood that he could only be the man God wanted him to be when he: 1) kept himself from evil speaking, 2) departed from evil, 3) did that which was good, and 4) pursued peace.
What are we pursuing today? How much more would our lives be pleasing to God if we would simply follow this instruction?
