Harmony…

I had a wonderful time with my family this evening. My two boys [6 and 4] were relaxing, listening to music; when I had the opportunity to point out the harmony in one of our favorite songs. My oldest said that he heard it, and even attempted to sing a few measures, while my youngest with his ear pressed against the speaker just smiled.

Why is it that some are able to hear and even sing the harmony, while others stand by with a clueless grin? Is it a matter of maturity or personality? Why is “harmony” called harmony? After all, isn’t it a different sound than the melody, an entirely different note; nevertheless, it is this difference that makes many songs so beautiful.

So it is in the body of Christ – we are all part of the same body, yet we are all very different; made that way on purpose. It is our incredible God-ordained uniqueness that makes us so incredibly beautiful.

One Response to “Harmony…”

I am the person who can hear the harmony, tries to find the harmony in her own voice and then spends the rest of the song off key while trying to sing the harmony. I should be more like Thad and just smile when I hear it instead of trying to sing it and not ever find it!
It’s a good example of someone trying to be something they’re not, I guess….I am not a harmonizer!
